The electrification of Equestria

Lotto Princess Celestia's royal repair pony once he had came back from his expedition to the Land on the Other Side. Lotto told Princess Celestia many stories of how the none magical Two Feet used a dangerous substance called electricity to do most of their heavy work and food production along with heating and cooling their houses  for them. He had to explain to Princess Celestia that the humans had vast systems of wires to bring the electricity from power sources hundreds of miles away. The wires brought the power into the humans homes were it was used to feed machines that did work for the humans return for more electricity.  Prince Celestia after giving it some thought asked Lotto to build a small power system for Canterlot Castle to test out electricity and it's many uses. But what instead ended up happening was bringing in electricity made the divide between the haves and have nots across Equestira grow. In that before the wires came Canterlot Nobles and Earth Ponies would sit in their dark cold huts and castles. But when the power came on now the ponies across Equestira would now sit back and freeze in winter as the Canterlot nobles sat in warmth and light. The ponies across Equestira quickly became heart broken as electricity feeding into the machines in the City of Canterlot were able to cut down the work load  that Earth ponies had to do in hours down to minutes. Princess Celestia meanwhile realized that Canterlot's small power system collecting power from a old mill dam outside of Ponyville wasn't big enough to feed the power needs of say a major city of over a million ponies like Manehattan. Quickly Princess Celestia sent out messengers back to the Land on the other side to the humans to see if any human company or group of companies would be interested in building Equestira a massive new power grid along with power plants for it's major cities. Quickly with in a few months several major electric utility proposals came back as tons of foreign  power company investors lined up. Some companies wanted to build coal fired power plants while others wanted to build tons of vast wind farms and one even wanted to build several nuclear power plants in the Everfree Forest. Celestia settled on one major Hydro Electric company's proposal to build a great hydro electric dam on Equestira's largest River the Great River. The Dam would have canal locks bigger then the Panama Canal to open up the Great River for shipping from the Atlantic to Manehatan. Along with that the dam would generate over 50,000 mega watts of power and sent it out to all of Equestira's major cities though a vast system of hundreds of thousands of miles of transmission lines. The great project would be built in phases over ten years and be repaid though the sale of power over 50 years. After 50 years the crown of Equestira would own the power company. Unless the amount of power from the Hydro project was able to repay the 50 billion in less time used to build it.

As for this photo here showing the construction of one of the bulk high voltage lines that will soon feed hunderds of megawatts of power into the vast Pony City of Manehattan. The double circuit taller transmission tower will operate at 365,000 volts while the shorter tower will carry a single circuit 765,000 volt line.  


This shows up in a fan fiction called the Red Boar comes to Town it's sort of based off of the 1950's Movie Animal farm were the animals who are running their own farm have to do trade with the outside human world to get supplies that they need.
